Retiring stiff paper gowns and unrelatable medical advice, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, a Board-certified Ob-Gyn, author and TV medical correspondent, breaks the barrier between doctor and patient. Affectionately referred to as your all-in-one ‘BFF’/Ob-Gyn, Dr. Jennifer Ashton marries an unparalleled medical background with an accessible ‘girl’s-girl’ attitude. Though Dr. Ashton can easily speak to the latest beauty and fashion trends, this Ivy League graduate means business when it comes to women’s health.
Not only ‘Talks
the talk,’ but
‘Walks the walk.’
From the onset, you might wonder how Dr. Ashton does it. Hailing from a family of 6 physicians and 1 nurse, this mother of two possesses a uniquely well-rounded understanding of the human body. Leading by example, Dr. Ashton not only ‘talks the talk,’ but ‘walks the walk.’ When she’s not in the office, she can be found training for triathlons or following her very own Five-Day/Two- Day Eating Plan, or trying out the latest fitness craze. Dr. Ashton demonstrates first-hand how to embrace and feel empowered at every stage of womanhood. Dr. Ashton is relatable in everything she does.
Hygeia Gynecology was conceived from the desire and intention to provide state-of-the-art gynecologic care to discriminating women of all ages. The philosophy of our practice is that women are entitled to receive personalized and elegant medical care in a beautiful surrounding that feels more spa-like than commercial or industrial. With the appointments as comfortable as those of a premier hotel, the customized feminine aesthetic of the office begins with the lack of a waiting room- only a Zen-like reception area. There is no waiting room at Hygeia because patients do not wait. Upon your arrival, you will be escorted directly to your examination room, where luxe materials and high-tech equipment surround you. From the beginning of your visit to the end, you will be treated like the Very Important Patient that you are. All aspects of gynecologic care and general health are addressed in this first completely eco-friendly physician practice in Northern New Jersey. Hygeia Gynecology provides dedicated medical care and service that harkens back to a by-gone era. By interacting with a select and intimate team of health care professionals, you will be spared frustration and inconvenience. This is old-school medicine with a new-age approach.
An FDA-cleared device that is used to address vaginal dryness, mild pelvic organ prolapse, and over-active bladder symptoms by stimulating collagen formation, increasing lubrication and recruiting the development of new blood vessels in the urogenital tissue. Dr. Ashton is one of the first Gynecologists in the NYC tri-state area to offer this technique to women, for female rejuvenation but also to assist in functional problems such as painful intercourse and over-active bladder.
This common hormonal imbalance affects approximately 10-20% of the female population. It can produce menstrual irregularity, acne, excess body hair, and even difficulty conceiving. Treatment centers around hormonal management, nutritional and behavioral modification, and if necessary, medications to increase fertility. Testing is by bloodwork, possibly pelvic ultrasound and physical examination.
Dr Ashton has a Master's in Nutrition and promotes the concept of Nutritional Gynecology. This is the study of interaction between nutrition and patients' hormonal and metabolic well-being. This approach works for patients experiencing PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) and women in menopause.
For symptomatic labial hypertrophy causing chafing, pain, difficulty inserting tampons or having intercourse...elective surgical resection options are discussed with emphasis on the fact that this is NOT an abnormal or functional issue, but rather is akin to choosing cosmetic surgery for rhinoplasty or breast augmentation or reduction.
Many women will benefit from receiving a second opinion on a proposed treatment or management of a Gynecologic condition. Whether for surgery that has been recommended, or for medical management, having all options and their inherent risks and benefits explained is the gold-standard in clinical practice today.
Fertility awareness, testing and preservation is undoubtedly one of the most rapidly emerging areas in the specialty of Ob-Gyn. At Hygeia Gynecology, Dr. Ashton believes that the time has come to shift the paradigm in women's reproductive health from one of Infertility and reactiveness, to that of Fertility and pro-activeness. As early as mid-20's, women can begin thinking about behaviors that can increase their reproductive options in the future, such as elective egg-freezing. In addition, there are simple tests (both hormonal tests and imaging tests) that can be performed in advance of a couple or a woman trying to conceive. Dr. Ashton can initiate this testing and then refers her patients to several top local and regional Reproductive Endocrinology groups when appropriate.
Do you think you eat well but are always trying to be healthier or lose a few pounds? Do you have a chronic medical condition that requires special dietary features? Arrange for an on-site, individualized nutritional plan with a certified nutritionist.
Most young adolescents do NOT require an internal pelvic examination at this first visit, nor do they require a Pap smear of the cervix. At the first visit, a comprehensive history is obtained with special attention to relevant family history, emotional / psychological issues, nutritional and social factors. Extensive and open dialogue about risks of premature sexual activity is reviewed and preventative health measures are discussed. Counseling surrounding the administration of the HPV/cervical cancer vaccine is addressed and the optimal timing of this vaccine recommended.
Many options for uterine surgery are offered including abdominal and vaginal surgery for uterine pain and fibroid tumors. This includes Abdominal Myomectomy, Abdominal Hysterectomy and Vaginal Hysteroscopic Myomectomy.
Breast cancer strikes one out of every eight women during their lifetime. Everyday, more and more is being learned about the disease and new advances in screening, detection and even prevention are evolving daily.
Pregnancy can be both an exciting and stressful time for the first-time mom and the seasoned veteran alike! While many pregnancies are uncomplicated and uneventful, one in ten pregnancies can involve Gestational Diabetes.
Osteoporosis is a disease that will likely affect more and more women, as our life expectancy increases. Though the best treatment is prevention, women with osteopenia and osteoporosis receive risk stratification for both disease and future injuries due to fractures.
Approximately 45-60% of women have some degree of female sexual dysfunction. As one of life’s critical functions, sex is often brushed-over or frankly ignored by many doctors who feel powerless to assist the suffering patient or, worse still, uncomfortable discussing this topic themselves.
